10 Spine Surgeons to Know

Two physicians debuting technology and eight more spine surgeons to know:

Hoon Choi, MD, PhD, Cleveland Clinic (Weston, Fla.). Dr. Choi joined Cleveland Clinic Florida in May. He specializes in minimally invasive robotic spine surgery, artificial disc replacement and restorative spine surgery.

James Dunlap, MD. Kettering (Ohio) Health Brain & Spine. Dr. Dunlap served in the military and was recognized as the most productive orthopedic surgeon in the Air Force. His expertise is in degenerative spine disorders.

Steven Falowski, MD. Advanced Surgery Center of Lancaster. Dr. Falowski specializes in complex spine procedures, pain management and spinal cord stimulation. He was named as an adviser to SynerFuse, a company focused on treating chronic lower back pain.

Arun Hariharan, MD. Pediatric Orthopedics of Southwest Florida (Fort Myers). Dr. Hariharan won the Russell A. Hibbs Best Clinical Research Paper award and the Louis A. Goldstein Best Clinical Research Poster Paper award. He has expertise in pediatric spine surgery.

Robert Huang, MD. Orthopaedic Spine Institute of Northwest Florida (Pensacola). Dr. Huang founded the Orthopaedic Institute of Northwest Florida and serves as medical director. He has practiced since 1995 and specializes in pediatric spine surgery.

Roland Kent, MD. Northwest Specialty Hospital (Post Falls, Idaho). Dr. Kent was chief of spine surgery at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (Va.) and spent two decades in the Navy. He was among the first surgeons to use the Excelsius3D imaging system.

Paul McAfee, MD. MedStar Orthopaedic Institute (Baltimore). Dr. McAfee has been in practice for more than 35 years and holds more than 20 patents. He was among the first surgeons to use the Excelsius3D imaging system.

Emeka Nwodim, MD. The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics (Bethesda, Md.). Dr. Nwodim is a clinical assistant professor of orthopedics at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. He has published multiple research articles.

Jeremy Smith, MD. Hoag Orthopedic Institute (Irvine, Calif.). Dr. Smith is an assistant professor at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He was chief resident in his last year of residency at the University of California Irvine.

William Taylor, MD. University of California San Diego. Dr. Taylor is executive director of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. He is known for his expertise in minimally invasive surgery and has received patient referrals from around the world.
